The things that have most challenged, but also interested and motivated me today are the articles and discussions we have had on today's learners. It is a little overwhelming for me to hear about how the netgen learners recieve most of their information these days because I can see how traditional high school learning can seem irrelevant to them.
The best way that we as teachers can help engage our students is to seek out teaching methods that use the same technology that they use on a daily basis. It has become my goal for this next year to slowly impliment new ways of teaching my curriculum that plays towards the technological strengths of my students.
One thing I am struggling with is trying to decide what the right amount of new technologies will be for me to add to my classroom that won't be too much for my students or myself. The new one I created today that I am still undecided about is a wiki page. Check it out at this link: WIKIWIKI

Great reflection, I can tell that you are considering the types of things that you must when making good decisions about your curriculum and teaching practice. Remember to take baby steps. I can tell you from experience that if you dive in too fast, it will probably be too much for you and your students. At least you have started to think about the things that will drive your implementation plan.
ReplyDeleteI totally know what you're feeling. I've been making a conscious effort to implement relevant technology for the past eight years, and I still can't seem to find the perfect balance. Some times, all students need to know is that you're receptive to their use of technology and that you're willing to learn with them. High school students will absolutely amaze you with the things they have to offer.
ReplyDeleteI think you have a great idea to roll out your tools slowly and gauge your students' reactions. Like the readings we've had show, students want input, ownership, and collaboration, and it seems like you're willing to give them all three of those things with the technology you use.
