Reflection #1

1-2. After our first day of class, I am starting to get some good ideas of how I can integrate technology into my classroom. One thing that has challenged me a little bit is that it is easy for me to just expect my students to conform to my teaching practices. I have always known, but at times tried to ignore the fact that students learn best when teaching is done in a way that plays towards their own strengths.

3. Right now I am still most interested in setting up a moodle page for my class. I see this as a very useful tool that will help my students and I in the classes I teach. I'm also interested in the wordle tool and how I could use that in my classes to see what students are doing well with and where they could still use some help.

4. I am looking forward to learning the ins and outs of each of the webtools in this class and how they can help my teaching.

  1. I think you're right about needing to play to students' strengths; as we have seen today, technology is definitely a strength. I think teachers, all teachers, get too proud sometimes and believe that they know best and the students need to conform simply because, well, we're the teacher.
I recently was fortunate to learn of the amazing opportunities Moodle provides after some great hesitation, while I have not employed my site for my students yet, I am excited to put it in play this September. I would be happy to help you as much as I can as well as getting your ideas for how to use it effectively in the science classroom.
